What is Bowen

Bowen is a powerful, yet gentle, hands on therapy where specific moves are made over soft tissue, either directly on the skin or through light clothing, to relieve pain and discomfort.  The treatment triggers the body’s own healing process.  Bowen helps relieve spasm and pain in the tissues and enables muscles, tendons and ligaments to regain their ability to relax.  The release of tensions and body stress usually stimulates the client’s own energy and normally improves poor sleep patterns.

How is the Bowen Technique applied?

Usually the client is lying comfortably on a couch, or seated.  A session lasts on average between 30 and 60 minutes during which the therapist will make a series of small moves on the tissues and then leave a few minutes for the body to absorb and start responding to these moves.  Often a profound sense of relaxation will be experienced as the body’s stresses are released. Further moves and breaks then follow.

Who benefits

People of all ages may benefit, from young babies to elderly people.

Some case studies

Ankle – Sheila, a gardener had a broken a bone in her foot 3 years earlier and had since experienced a weakness in her ankle – no more trampolining!

One treatment corrected the problem to her disbelief and no further sessions were needed.

Frozen Shoulder

Maggie had neglected a shoulder problem for some weeks, had tried osteopathy and massage but any relief was only temporary.  The pain kept her from sleeping.  Within 2 sessions the pain had gone from the shoulder and the range of movement started to improve.

IBS

Joan had experienced stomach cramps with alternating diarrhoea and constipation.   After the third session the IBS totally stopped and has not since recurred.
